Belong Privacy Policy Effective September 7, 2026 · Belong Church, Port Moody, BC

This describes what the Belong app collects, why, who it's shared with, and how you can see, change, or delete it.

1. Information we collectAccount information: your email and password (we never see or store the password itself — Supabase, our backend provider, handles that with industry-standard hashing), plus whatever you add to your profile: username, full name, a short bio, and a profile photo. Full name, bio, and photo are optional.

Content you create: posts, comments, and likes; prayer requests (anonymous option available) and responses; comments on the daily reading; volunteer sign-ups with the display name you choose; events you create and your RSVPs; direct messages and group chats; and anything you report.

Notifications: if you allow them, your device gets a push token so we can send things like the daily verse or a reminder before you're scheduled to serve. Turn this off any time in Settings.

Automatically collected: standard timestamps (when you posted, signed up, RSVP'd), and basic device information your platform provides for app functionality and crash diagnostics.

2. How we use itTo run the app — show your posts to the community, keep your profile and RSVPs straight, let you sign back in. To keep the community safe — reviewing reports, enforcing our community guidelines, and, rarely, suspending or banning an account. To reach you — the daily verse notification, a reminder before you're due to serve, and, only if you've opted in, replies and prayer responses. We don't sell, rent, or use your information for advertising, and there are no ads in Belong.

3. Who we share it withWe don't sell your information, to anyone, ever. A few service providers process it on our behalf, strictly to run the app: Supabase (database, authentication, file storage, and hosting), Expo (delivering push notifications, using your device's push token only), Resend (sending the serving-reminder email, where enabled, using your email only when a reminder is due), YouTube (playing sermon videos), and Apple / Google (distributing the app).

Other members can see what you'd expect from a community app: your username, name, and photo, and anything you post publicly. Prayer requests can be posted anonymously — your name isn't shown to other members if you choose that option, though it stays tied to your account internally for moderation. We may also disclose information if required by law.

4. Giving & paymentsThe app itself never touches your payment or banking information. The Give tab simply points you to an Interac e-Transfer address and to a PayPal giving page on our website. Any payment details you enter there are handled entirely by your own bank or PayPal — not by us, and not by this app.

5. Retention & deletionWe keep your information for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete Account, right in the app — no need to email anyone. Deleting your account permanently removes your profile, your posts, comments, prayer requests, and everything else personal to you, removes your profile photo from storage, and signs you out everywhere immediately. Content that belongs to the church rather than to you personally stays up, but is no longer attributed to your account. This can't be undone once you confirm it.

6. Your choicesEdit or remove your profile information any time in Settings. Post anonymously for any prayer request. Block another member from Settings → Blocked Users. Report a post, comment, or user you're concerned about. Turn off notifications from Settings, or your device's system settings. Delete your account, as above. Email us to request a copy of your data or ask us anything about this policy.

7. Children's privacyBelong is intended for members of our church community and is not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13 without parental consent. If you believe a child has created an account without that consent, please contact us and we'll remove it.

8. SecurityYour information is encrypted in transit and at rest through Supabase. Access to your data is controlled by row-level security policies scoped to your own account, so no one — including us — can browse other members' private data directly. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable, industry-standard measures to protect what you share with us.

9. Changes to this policyIf this policy changes in a meaningful way, we'll update the effective date above and let members know in the app. Continuing to use Belong after a change means you accept the update.

Common questions

How do I create an account?
Open the app, tap "Create an account," and enter your email and a password. You're in immediately — no email verification step.

I forgot my password. Now what?
On the sign-in screen, tap "Forgot password?" and follow the reset link sent to your email.

How do I delete my account?
Go to Settings → Delete Account. This permanently removes your profile, posts, and everything else tied to your account, right away — no need to email us first.

Someone's being inappropriate. How do I report it?
Tap the flag icon on any post, comment, or profile to report it to our moderators. You can also block a member from their profile so you no longer see each other's content.

How does giving work?
The Give tab shows two options: an Interac e-Transfer address, or a link to give via PayPal on our website. The app itself never handles payment details — that's between you and your bank or PayPal.

How do I turn off notifications?
In Settings, toggle notifications off — or manage them from your device's system settings at any time.
